3rd Brigade Changes Command
FORT BRAGG, N.C. – Col. Jeff Smith will take command of 3rd Brigade (505th
Parachute Infantry Regiment), 82nd Airborne Division from Col. James Huggins,
during a ceremony at Pike Field at 10 a.m., June 26. Major General Charles H,
Swannack, Jr., 82nd Airborne Division Commander, will host the ceremony.
Smith comes to the Division after serving as the Assistant Chief of Staff for
Operations, G3, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). Huggins has commanded the
brigade since June 27, 2001. He will serve as the Chief of Staff, 82nd Airborne
Division. Huggins led the brigade during its deployment to Afghanistan from June
2002 to January 2003.
